2010 NYC Student Shakespeare Festival
April 15, 2010

An 8-year-old Prospero?  Macbeth – the musical?  9 Romeos?

CAT’s 17th Annual NYC Student Shakespeare Festival was the biggest yet: 26 groups – 30 teachers and 500 students from 19 schools – performed at the legendary Lucille Lortel Theatre in Greenwich Village on April 28th, 29th, 30th, and May 4th.  CAT’s Festival is the culmination of a year-long professional development program, including in-class workshops with professional teaching artists, which promotes understanding and application of Shakespeare in the lives of NYC students.  Following a successful Shakespeare in the Classroom residency last year, York Early College Academy, a CUNY SSO school, became one of this year’s newest schools to join the program.  Said one new teacher: “Thank you – best PD I’ve maybe ever participated in and I’ve been doing this for 16 years!”

CAT’s NYCSSF is sponsored by The BWF Foundation, Inc. and the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs with additional support from Penguin Group USA, The Lucille Lortel Foundation, SBS Promo and participating schools.
