STNYC: Wellness Welcome

by Michelle Tibois

Michelle Tibois, reporting for Newsletter duty!

I am so excited to be meeting you all via newsletter and to be a part of the Sound Thinking team this year. I am senior from John Jay College, studying to become a mental health counselor and help my community with proper and effective ways to work with their minds and bodies. It has been a pleasure working with Ah-Keisha and Paola this far and I’m learning so much about what we do and what we mean to all of you.

This year I will be introducing a self-care workshop where will explore the importance of taking care of your body, mind and spirit. Having a career and working hard is important but taking care of ourselves is just as important, if not more. Taking care of yourself mentally, physically and emotionally will prepare you for life, for a future and for helping the communities and world around you. Self-care isn’t the easiest but I hope we can work together to water and care for those beautiful seeds planted within us. All we need is love, patience and a little bit of pixie dust (I think we might have some in our supply closet)!

Self-care tip of the day:

Take a moment to close your eyes and breathe.

Complete 3 sets of inhales and exhales and do it consistently, it’ll give you more control of your body and mind.

“Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.” ~ Lao Tzu
