Assistant Program Director
Early Learning Program
Courtney M. McClellan is the Assistant Program Director of the Early Learning Program at the CUNY Creative Arts Team, and a New York-based teaching artist, actor, early childhood educator, facilitator, freelance voiceover artist, and graphic designer. She has taught in Montessori, public, and private classrooms for over 5 years, and has worked with young people in various capacities for more than 20 years. She is a native of Nashville, Tennessee, where she originally developed a love for the arts.
Her belief in drama's power to change lives stems from her work with the Early Learning Program at CAT, where she began working in 2016 as an Actor Teacher, using storytelling and interactive practices to teach higher-order literacy skills to ENL students. She also leads professional development with NYC DOE teachers to share drama strategies for literacy and social-emotional instruction in the classroom.
Courtney is a proud HBCU alum of Hampton University, having earned her BA in communications in 2008. She will complete her MA in Applied Theatre with CUNY in May of 2021. She continues to work with organizations that support new work, diverse artists, racial/social justice and progress, and educational theatre.
