Assistant Program Director
Early Learning Program
Courtney M. McClellan is the Assistant Program Director of the Early Learning Program at the CUNY Creative Arts Team, and a New York-based teaching artist, actor, early childhood educator, facilitator, freelance voiceover artist and graphic designer. She has taught in Montessori, public, and private classrooms for over 5 years, and has worked with young people in various capacities for more than 10 years. She is a native of Nashville, Tennessee, where she originally developed a love for the arts.
Her belief that drama has the power to change lives stems from her daily work with the Early Learning/Astor Program at the Creative Arts Team. She began working with CAT in 2016 as an Actor Teacher with ELP, using storytelling and interactive practices to teach higher-order literacy skills to ENL students. She also leads professional development sessions with NYC DOE teachers to share drama strategies to implement in the classroom for literacy and social emotional learning.
Courtney is a proud HBCU alum of Hampton University, having earned her BA in communications in 2008. She will attend CUNY’s MA in Applied Theatre program beginning August 2018. She continues to work with organizations that support new work, diverse artists, and educational theatre, including Urban Stages, The Skeleton Rep, and The Fringe Festival.
