Director of Administration
Rachel Castillo joined the CUNY Creative Arts Team (CAT) in 2004 as the Operations Manager and over time became the Director of Administration and Operations. During her 15+ years with CAT, Rachel has worked with colleagues to make CAT's participant-centered interactive drama-based programming accessible to NYC youth, parents, and professionals. Rachel deeply connects to and believes in CAT's mission to inspire, engage, and educate through the lens of Arts Education.
As a New York City born and bred arts activist, Rachel Castillo spent her adolescent years in a media literacy arts organization, Rise and Shine Productions, where young people were given the opportunity to direct, produce, act in and edit their own videos for a monthly public-access cable channel. After graduating from Eugene Lang College, Rachel worked at a variety of NYC youth and community based organizations, using the arts, in particular theater and street theater, as an outlet for youth empowerment and community activism. Among the organizations Rachel has worked closely with are Sistas on the Rise, HCZ-TRUCE Academy, the East Harlem Tutorial Program, and Youth Ministries for Peace and Justice.
