CAT Youth Theatre Presents 2009 Original Production
March 15, 2009

From February 29 to March 1, the award-winning CAT Youth Theatre presented its original 2009 production, WHAT LIES BENEATH.  An aggregate audience of more than 800 attended the show, which took place at the Baruch College Performing Arts Center.

WHAT LIES BENEATH transported its audience to a graveyard, where the voices that haunted the most weren’t always the voices of the past.  The production explored such issues as war, teen suicide, and the very basic question of identity.

The 31 company members who created and performed WHAT LIES BENEATH under CAT Youth Theatre staff guidance hail from throughout New York City.  More than half were new to the program and had never before been in a play.

As part of their course work, four students in the MA in Applied Theatre assisted in mentoring the young people and helped to shape the performance.

Audience feedback was amazing.  A sampling:

"The issues you explored this year were difficult ones, but so real.  You addressed them with sensitivity, humor, and thoughtfulness."

"The show was fantastic and I am not likely to forget that finish anytime soon."
