Middle Grades Literacy Initiative
October 1, 2012This year, CAT continues its partnerships with 10 middle schools to engage middle school students in literacy for the entire school year. In eight schools, school-day programs bring CAT Actor-Teachers into the classroom every week to provide students with new perspectives on the curriculum through drama and other arts. In two after-school programs, the Community Action Theatre Troupe incorporates field trips, visits from professional performers, writers, and artists, and group activities into the students' extended day.
These adolescent literacy programs receive generous support from the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development and the New York City Council.
